What upgrade options are available for the Kadett c, what brakes are you Kadett owners using?

Will the brakes from a Manta bolt straight on?

Manta brakes will bolt straight on . Best ones to go for are the 246mm vented discs and calipers as these will fit under 13" wheels, any bigger and you'll have to change your wheels .

combination of manta and early astra mk2 calipers, so you can run vented record 2.2 disks.
golf mk2 brakes is also possible, but i dont remember what to adjust to make them fit

Why use Audi discs, will any opel discs fit or any others for that matter with out modifying? And what is actually involved in modifying them?

you gotta make centre hole bigger and redrill the holes for da studs da ofset is where you'll get caught so must go wit them disks i think anyways it cost 80 for two new disks and 50 to mod them was a bit pricy but its done right

would think it is better using unmodified parts, easier to replace if you have to with off the shelf bits.

Thats exactally what i was thinking myself

I use unmodified parts, ie carlton 2.2 discs(246mm vented) which bolt straight on to the kadett hubs no probs at all and you should be able to use manta 2-pot calipers. Other calipers that bolt straight on are austin princess 4-pots and volvo 240 4-pots, but I would avoid the princess items as they are reported to be ****e.

Another item to be added to the list I suspect.

Have been thinking of the volvo option but hadn't an option for the disks.

I think i will be going down the Carlton / Volvo route myself, thanks for that:thumbup: must keep my eyes open for the calipers.

Also i have princess 4 pots on my Escort and to be honest i cannot fault them, much better that the origional M 16 calipers

Are you thinking of putting them on the GT? I was trying to put this set up on the Kadett B and discovered that the calipers do not bolt on as there is a different spacing between the bolt holes and I think that the Kadett B and the GT have the same brake/suspension set up, Although I could be wrong.
Worth getting a Kadett c/Manta B caliper to try first before you splash out.
You could also ask the guys on opelgt.com what brake upgrades they use,
come to think of it I should also ask myself.

hey not sure if 13" wheels will go over the volvo stuff if that matters to u

Already thinking of larger rims. They are needed.

Link here under bigger brakes for old Opels, specifically for the GT. http://www.opeltuners.com/

Volvo calipers seem to be cheap in the US. Even taking the surcharge in to consideration.

I was told that 240 4 pots were the ones to go for it that correct?

Got some Volvo 4-pots and trial fitted them and found that this protrusion touched the disc on the inside.
http://totalopel.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=54&pictureid=322
There were 2 of them so I ground them down as they dont seem to be doing anything anyway.
http://totalopel.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=54&pictureid=323
Refitted and screwed the wheel back on and gave it a spin.
There was a slight intermittant scrubbing on the inside of the wheel so that meant 2 things, the wheel was slightly bent and obviously was touching the caliper so I lightlly ground down the upper and lower outer edges of the caliper and , hey presto, no scrubbing and fitted under 13" wheels.
I'll have to sort out some bigger discs to fill the calipers.
Also discovered that Kadett D,E, Cavalier brake pads fit by grinding the outer edges slightly. Opel pads were 100mm wide and volvo ones are 99mm.

First pic shows the point that was binding on the disc when fitted.
http://totalopel.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=58&pictureid=346
So I ground it down and the same to the other one
http://totalopel.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=58&pictureid=347
Then with wheel fitted I found the top and bottom were binding on the wheel.
http://totalopel.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=58&pictureid=348
So i ground them down also.

I have a set of (i think) audi disks with the centres bored out and new mounting holes drilled, i have vectra callipers i think (just went to the scrappy and sed give me the biggest callipers you have to fit this disk and that hub) and my mini****es fit over them, but not standard 13" steels... yet to find out how they work due to a lack of an engine..

Right Lads , Got a bit more done today.
Been talk about what discs to use, Audi or Honda, I went for the Honda Prelude 88-91 2.016v as they were 262mm diameter same as volvo and also nearly the same depth as the original kadett disc.

original kadett disc
http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww126/mamakevf/13022009586.jpg

Honda disc
http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww126/mamakevf/13022009584.jpg

As you can see, the hub does not fit into the disc, so had to be machined, and four extra holes drilled for attaching it.
http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww126/mamakevf/13022009585.jpg
http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww126/mamakevf/13022009590.jpg

Mounted everything to car and found that one pad would not fit, this was due to there being a slight variation in the depth of the original disc and the honda item,(52mm as to 53mm iirc) I then had the mounting faces of the caliper machined down 1/2mm.
http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww126/mamakevf/18022009603.jpg

Everything fitted now.

Next was feeding the fluid to the caliper.
The volvo caliper has 2 inlets so I used a t-piece to divide it up.

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww126/mamakevf/01032009634.jpg
Fitted wheel back on, and found that the wheel was now binding on the caliper again, but was easily fixed with a 5mm wheel spacer.

Just to reopen this again.

I have a spare set of Princess 4 pot calipers that i was going to use and i know that they fit behind 13" wheels and bolt straight on without modification.

Now to avoid pad overlap the ideal disc size for the princess calipers is 257mm. can any one tell me if there are opel (or other for that matter) discs which will bolt on without requiring modification that are close to a 257mm diameter?
